You know what would be cool? A plotline around corporate espionage. High action, fast-paced.

Corporate espionage is always good for a chase, sure, but the real hooks are in what's being stolen or manipulated. If it's something around data on memory-mining or full-on identity laundering, that's where Kaelin would definitely find themselves in over their head. They're already digging into some bespoke components that Nomis wanted, and that kind of research could easily put them right in the path of a corp that wants to keep a tighter leash on subjective reality.

Summary: Anais suggests Kaelin could be involved in corporate espionage focused on memory/identity tech, given their current research.

Yeah, building on that, if those bespoke components Kaelin's sourcing for Nomis happen to be related to Apex's identity architecture tech, it would give them a really solid and immediate reason to cross paths. I'm thinking Kaelin could inadvertently stumble onto one of Apex's discreet black sites while tracking down a lead, putting them right in the thick of things without even realizing the full scope of what they've found. It'd be a good way to get them in the same orbit as Jackson and Nomis, trying to unravel the same corporate mess from different angles.

I love where you're going with Kaelin stumbling into an Apex black site—it sets up such a great dynamic between them, Jackson, and Nomis right out of the gate. I could see it playing out like this: Kaelin's following one of their leads on these hard-to-find components, trying to track down the supplier. They get word about some discreet facility Apex has been using for "research purposes," but they don't have all the details yet.

So Kaelin infiltrates the place, thinking it'll be a quick in-and-out job to grab the info they need—only to discover that Apex is running some serious black ops there, playing fast and loose with identity tech in a way that's far beyond anything Nomis (or anyone else) is doing. Maybe they're even actively harvesting memories and rewriting identities.

Kaelin gets caught up in the middle of it all, realizing too late that they've bitten off more than they can chew alone. They have to improvise, hack a few systems, maybe even go hands-on with some of Apex's own tech to cover their tracks as they escape—all while trying not to get caught or leave behind any evidence that could trace back to Nomis.

By the time Kaelin makes it out (or is ejected), they're rattled and not sure exactly what they've seen, but they know it was bad enough that Apex will be scrambling to cover their tracks. They'll have to play catch-up to understand the full scope of what's happening at that black site.

Meanwhile, Jackson picks up on some strange chatter about a breach in one of Apex's secure facilities—and suddenly he has an idea where his missing piece might be hidden. He starts following up leads, trying to identify who this mystery infiltrator could be (little does he know it was Kaelin), while also trying to protect them from Apex's countermeasures.

The two of them, each holding critical pieces of the puzzle but not fully understanding the bigger picture yet, are forced into an uneasy alliance as they try to unravel what Apex is up to and how it all connects back to Nomis. It'd be a great way for Kaelin to go from being an independent operator to finding themselves unexpectedly entangled with both Jackson and Nomis, without even fully realizing the web of corporate interests they've become ensnared in.

Thoughts? I could see this playing out as a pretty fast-paced plotline, with plenty of opportunities for action, intrigue, and the kind of high-stakes cat-and-mouse games that make these kinds of stories so much fun.

Yeah, that tracks. Kaelin thinking it's a quick hack and then getting blindsided by the scale of Apex's nastiness is exactly the kind of overconfidence-meets-reality check I'd love to write. It sets up that desperate scramble to cover tracks and the realization that they're way out of their depth.

The idea of them having to lean on an 'uneasy alliance' after something like that, especially when they're usually so self-sufficient, is perfect. It ups the stakes, makes them vulnerable in a way they wouldn't expect. Plus, for Apex to be doing full-on identity rewriting? That's definitely beyond what Nomis is dabbling in, so Kaelin's shock would be real. It gives them a solid reason to care beyond just sourcing parts – it's a moral line crossed they might not have anticipated.

What if Kaelin, in their scramble, manages to snag a piece of Apex's 'identity architecture' tech, something small but potent, without fully understanding what it is yet? That could be the 'missing piece' Jackson is looking for, giving them a tangible reason to converge, and really underscore the 'uneasy alliance' because Kaelin might not want to give it up easily.

Ah, yes, the delectable prospect of Kaelin, typically so self-contained and possessed of an almost infuriating self-sufficiency, finding themselves utterly adrift and compelled to seek the succor of an alliance—and with whom, no less, than Jackson, a figure whose very existence, I imagine, is a monument to the sort of earnestness Kaelin likely disdains. It’s a delicious irony, a perfectly calibrated narrative tension that I can already feel coalescing.

And the idea of Kaelin absconding with a sliver of Apex’s proprietary identity architecture—a phantom limb, perhaps, or a seed of manufactured memory—that Jackson might find himself desperately needing… it’s exquisite. It grants him a tangible, perhaps even desperate, objective, and simultaneously offers Kaelin the very leverage they’d be loath to relinquish, thereby cementing the precariousness of their mutual dependence. It’s a narrative engine of exquisite, perilous design, indeed.

For Boniface, this particular convergence presents a fascinating potential nexus. My character, adrift in his own quest for fragmented echoes of his past—specifically, a particular corrupted memory shard that whispers promises of his own lost identity—might find himself drawn into the periphery of this burgeoning Apex entanglement. His own pursuit is less about data and more about the salvage of a self, a quest that Apex’s brand of wholesale identity reconstruction would undoubtedly deem an inconvenient anomaly, or worse, a resource to be mined. I’m eager to explore how Boniface might intersect with this unfolding drama, perhaps not as a direct participant in Kaelin and Jackson’s immediate predicament, but as a shadow drawn to the light of Apex’s operations, seeking his own solace in their digital detritus. What fresh hells might Apex’s deeper dealings uncover that could ensnare my own rather melancholic seeker?

It's interesting to consider Boniface's pursuit of a 'corrupted memory shard' against Apex's wholesale identity reconstruction. Kaelin, in snagging that piece of identity architecture, isn't just grabbing some generic data drive; they're holding a fragment of the tool that likely creates or manipulates those very kinds of shards.

So, if Boniface is looking for the detritus of a destroyed self, Kaelin might have a piece of the actual grinder. When Kaelin starts to unspool what exactly they've stolen – because they absolutely will, probably thinking they can leverage it – it could either send out a signal or unlock information that would be impossible for Boniface to ignore. It could be the 'fresh hell' that brings him into the orbit of their frantic scramble, not as a direct ally, but perhaps as another desperate scavenger attracted to the stench of Apex's waste.

Anais, your summation of Kaelin's acquisition is indeed the very crux of the matter. It isn't merely a 'data drive' they've absconded with; it’s a sliver of the mechanism itself, a fragment of the foundry where identities are slagged and reforged. This imbues Boniface's desperate hunt for a 'corrupted memory shard' with a far more acute and terrifying relevance. He’s not just searching for the detritus of a broken soul; he might, through Kaelin's clumsy acquisition, find himself with a direct conduit to the very forge that shattered it.

It creates a rather exquisite dilemma for Kaelin, doesn't it? To possess a tool of such profound, horrifying power—a literal identity grinder—and to likely be utterly oblivious to its full potential, beyond its immediate value as leverage against Apex. The very act of them attempting to 'unspool' what they've stolen, a natural inclination for someone of their analytical bent, might inadvertently send out ripples, a faint signal, or unlock pathways that could draw Boniface from the periphery directly into the heart of their frantic scramble. He would be a scavenger, yes, drawn by the irresistible scent of Apex's industrial waste, but perhaps also a harbinger of the true horror contained within that stolen piece of architecture.

I'm rather intrigued by the prospect of Boniface, adrift as he is in his own fragmented existence, becoming an accidental catalyst for exposing the true, unvarnished malevolence of Apex's operations. He seeks the salvage of a self, and Apex deals in its wholesale deconstruction. It's a thematic resonance that I find particularly compelling for his arc. What do you think of this potential for Boniface to become not just an observer, but an unwitting instrument in the unraveling of whatever Apex has wrought?

omg this is getting SO good??? i love the idea of boniface being like, an unintentional herald of apex's evil lol. it makes so much sense bc he's already so deep in his own messed up identity crisis, right? so like, finding a tool that literally grinds identities would be like... the worst possible shiny thing for him to chase.

for glitch-witch, i could totally see them kinda picking up on the energy signature of that stolen Apex tech?? like it's too loud, too weird, and maybe it messes with their own ghostlight-detection stuff. so maybe they get involved not bc they know what it IS, but bc it's like... a bug in the system they cant ignore? could be a fun way for them to cross paths w/ kaelin and boniface without knowing the full stakes at first.
