New Case, Old Scars - Jackson Perreira - 05-31-2026 The datapad slides across the desk with a soft click that echoes in the quiet office. Jackson Perreira's eyes trace the lines of text, his finger hovering over the name printed there—Morrison-Klein Industries. The very same corporation whose asset-tracking program he'd helped expose two years ago, before things got messy and people started disappearing. "Ghostlights," the visitor mutters, shifting nervously in their seat. "That's what they're calling them now. People go missing, then show up days later with these... glitches in their memory cores. Like someone overwrote part of their personality matrix." Jackson takes another sip of his whiskey, feeling it burn down his throat. His desk lamp casts harsh shadows across the documents scattered before him—old case files he'd never quite been able to close. The ghostlight incidents had stopped after that first investigation, or at least gone quiet. "Morrison-Klein wants you to find someone who went missing a week ago," the visitor continues, sliding another datachip across the desk. "Young woman named Elara Chen. They're offering twice what's on that pad as a bonus if you can bring her back... intact." The word hangs heavy in the air. Jackson leans back in his chair, the old springs creaking. His hand unconsciously moves to the scar on his ribs—old damage from when he'd gotten too close last time. Outside, the city never sleeps, but in this part of town, it's always three AM somewhere. |
